Geologist and businessman David Lawrence has dedicated the past 30 years of his career to Royal Dutch Shell plc and its subsidiaries. The recipient of a Ph.D in geology and geophysics from Yale University, he joined the conglomerate as a research geologist and research manager with Shell Development Company in Houston, developing and implementing new exploration concepts. After spending eight years in that division, David Lawrence transferred to the Shell US Deepwater Division in New Orleans as Chief Geologist and new play exploration manager. Subsequently, Lawrence rose to more senior executive roles with the organization. As vice president for Shell Offshore Properties and Capital in New Orleans, he handled producer finance, divestitures, acquisitions, and joint ventures. He went on to serve as general manager of Shell Find and Development Co., responsible for exploration, drilling, land, development and primary production activity for its Gulf of Mexico shelf projects. He continued as vice president of exploration and development for Shell EP for the onshore and offshore U.S. and split his time between Houston and New Orleans. Following his work in this position, he entered Royal Dutch Shell's global endeavors. As Vice President of Corporate Strategy in London, he performed planning, strategy, portfolio analysis, and competitive intelligence analysis for the Shell Group. He then served as Vice President of Investor Relations for Shell, before returning to E&P as Executive Vice President of Global Exploration in the Netherlands. Returning to the United States, he most recently served as Executive Vice President of Exploration and Commercial for Shell Upstream Americas in Houston, with responsibilities including exploration, gas monetization, LNG, new business development and wind. Following his retirement from Shell in 2013, he currently serves as a director on the board of Stone Energy Corporation.
