He began his career more than three decades ago as an associate attorney for Leonhardt & Upchurch, where he handled civil litigation, as well as corporate and commercial transactions. Before entering the legal field, Ted Doran earned a BS in criminology and sociology, with a minor in Government, from Florida State University and a JD from the University of Florida College of Law. Focusing on civil litigation, Mr. Doran represents clients in areas ranging from family law to insurance receiverships. He also possesses a depth of experience representing government bodies in complicated matters. Along with defending some of the most substantial suits brought against the State of Florida, he has won two of the three largest settlements for the State as receiver of failed insurance organizations. Since 2002, Ted Doran has served as School Board Attorney for Volusia County Schools. Previously, he represented the school board in its challenge against the procedures used by the Florida Department of Education to estimate the variable costs of living across the state’s school districts. Mr. Doran also helped found the FUTURES Foundation of Volusia County Schools to bolster support for public education among local civic and business leaders and provide financing for initiatives such as teacher recruitment and leadership development programs.
