In his accomplished medical career, Dr. Robert Dean Stebbins maintained a private practice in hematology, oncology, and internal medicine for 20 years. Located in Palo Alto, California, the practice focused on breast cancer and leukemia treatment. Managing a professional staff of six and a certified laboratory, Robert D. Stebbins, MD, also developed a consultation practice in oncology and internal medicine for international corporate executives. During this period, he served as founding President and Chairman of the Board of Private Physicians Group at Stanford, Inc., an organization of 250 physicians in private practice who competed for health maintenance organization (HMO) contracts. Under his direction, the organization received distinction as the “Best Managed” new medical group from Blue Shield.

In other professional positions, Robert Dean Stebbins, MD, acted as Founding Chairman of the Committee on Residency Training and Clinical Service at Stanford University’s Department of Medicine. In this role, he led the review of the department’s residency training program and the hospital’s teaching services, directing 18 senior physicians and trainees. Dr. Stebbins also served as Associate Director of the Compromised Host Unit at Stanford University Hospital, the medical institution’s first stand-alone leukemia facility. As such, he directed the construction design and protocol requirements for treatment for the new unit.

A skilled researcher and teacher, Robert Dean Stebbins, MD, accepted a position as a Research Associate for California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco where he developed research protocols to aid infants with extremely low birth weights. At CardioSynopsis, Inc., in Sunnyvale, California, a developer of radiofrequency-cured vascular stents, he fulfilled the role of Research and Development Consultant, coordinating prototype creation with other professionals. As a teacher, Dr. Robert D. Stebbins earned roles as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and as a Clinical Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Robert Dean Stebbins, MD, completed undergraduate studies at Iowa State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science. He earned a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. Subsequently, Dr. Stebbins became a Postdoctoral Fellow in hematology at New York University School of Medicine. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in oncology at Yale School of Medicine.
