Financial services professional Richard Shafer currently functions as the Executive Director of Well and Good LLC, where he fulfills a number of responsibilities. From offices in Madison, Wisconsin, Richard Shafer leads the boutique firm in advising fiduciaries of retirement plans. Since launching his company in 2009, he has worked with independent colleges and schools, large and small, nationwide.
Through Well and Good, Richard Shafer offers clients several benefits, including the comprehensive Transition Program. During this program, he investigates possible investment opportunities for the plan, re-examines vendor relationships, performs benchmarking, and offers personal guidance to those who participate. Well and Good also provides an 80-page informational resource. Once the Transition Program is complete, fiduciaries may elect to use the information gathered to adjust their plans as necessary, or they may retain Shafer's counsel in order to continually meet the needs of their employees and their company. Richard Shafer stresses that fiduciaries are in no way obligated to make a decision until reviewing their Transition Program results.
Before establishing Well and Good, Richard Shafer acquired invaluable experience with two other firms. For four years, he served as Director of Retirement Plan Solutions and Senior Manager at CUNA Mutual Group, where he assisted the company in achieving a number-one consumer ranking, as well as a return on investment rate of 35 percent in one year. He also spent 19 years at TIAA-CREF, where he rose to the position of Regional Vice President and oversaw a number of operations in three offices on the West Coast.
In other duties, Richard Shafer served as both Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Nominating Committee for the California State University Foundation; over the span of five years, he worked with the university system's chancellor in an advisory capacity.
