    Summary

As a zealous advocate for poor and homeless children, youth, and families, Nichelle Mitchem has served as an executive for both local and national organizations dedicated to the betterment of this segment of the population for nearly two decades. This work has afforded her the opportunity to serve vulnerable populations in some of our nation’s most impoverished neighborhoods in the cities of Atlanta, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Throughout her professional career, Nichelle has gained a vast amount of knowledge, skills, and experience in various areas of nonprofit organizational management. These areas include but are not limited to organizational alignment, strategic and operational planning, change management, board and program development, evaluation, and resource development. Her knowledge in these areas has given her a unique and holistic perspective as she has served as a trustee, executive, and staff member of institutions in the fields of higher education, advocacy, and social service. This expertise has warranted her praise and respect from Board members, colleagues, and clients alike for her exceptional contributions to the organizations she serves. As a proven leader in nonprofit management, Nichelle has consistently expanded and ultimately strengthened the capacity of nonprofit health and human service organizations serving children, youth, and families through individual and corporate philanthropy as well as local, state, and federal government funding. In one of her most recent roles as Executive Director, Nichelle raised over three and a half million dollars ($3,500,000) to expand, renovate, and operate the agency’s emergency shelter; over two million ($2,000,000) dollars annually to operate the agency’s programs and services; and over one million new grant dollars ($1,600,000) to expand the agency’s programs and services. In this role, Nichelle also brought this organization to critical acclaim, being recognized as one of the District of Columbia’s best nonprofit agencies in Washingtonian Magazine’s cover story in their December 2008 issue. In addition to serving as an Executive Director, Nichelle has also worked as an Executive Coach and Consultant to institutions due to her expertise in the areas of board and program development, evaluation, and fundraising. In addition to being a published author, national speaker, and contributor to the New York Times, Washington Post, Washingtonian Magazine, Heart and Soul Magazine, NBC, and Fox News, Nichelle has sat on the Board of Directors and Trustees for countless local and national service organizations, including the Kiwanis Club Foundation, Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Before beginning her career, Nichelle received her Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Wisconsin Law School and her Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Marquette University.
