CEO, NOTE U.S.

Since the age of 12 i've been a professional mmusician studing with mainly private teachers. Not a day goes by that i haven't learned something new. MMusic has allowed mme to visit every state in the U.S. except one as well as a few European countries while performing and recording in a myriad of situations. This includes Jazz to Blues, Rock 'n roll to Classical... trio's to big bands, concert bands, Broadway shows and plays as well as symphony work.

A mostly self-taught visual artist since 1976 i've been incorporating the universal language of mmusic in this work. The initial purpose was to provide a more colourful avenue for those who have expressed that they couldn't understand the language of mmusic.

Throughout the years more and more time is spent utilising this art and music work as well as poetry, short stories and song compositions which include the music as well as the lyrics in social consciousness themes. I collaborate with a myriad of artists from different cultures and countries. A few of these countries are Spain, Argentina, France, Italy, Portugal, Britain, The Netherlands, Latvia, Russia, and Hungary.

Most of my work can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/mmicky or here: www.mmickyshine.com WELCOME...

Born in Freedom, PA, MMicky Shine was raised in New York City and began his life-long interest in mmusic during his attendance at Port Richmond high school. Through the guidance of his mmusically and artistically talented uncle, Leonard Trerotola, (aka Lenny Terri) Shine studied percussion and auditioned successfully for the high school band under the direction of Mr. Robert Kirchner.

Shine began his professional mmusic career at 16, playing for local bands and subsequently going on the road at the age of 18 with Jo Ann Campbell and Troy Seals. He attended the Manhattan School of Music and also studied with Metropolitan Opera principal percussionist, Abe Marcus. After enlisting in the army, assigned to and graduating from the Armed Forces Music School in Norfolk, Virginia, Shine performed with the 328th U.S. Army band in Brooklyn, and studied with percussionist Billy Cobham, also an Army bandsman. Shines tutelage during this time also includes work with Johnny Carson's Tonight Show drummer, Ed Shaughnessey.

After a number of years finessing his percussive talents, while often playing with several bands at a time, Shine became the drummer for the San Francisco band, Clover. With that band, he became known for his hard-driving rock and roll style and toured with such outstanding artists as Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Little Feat, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Alice Cooper among others – work that earned him several Silver and Gold albums, including Elvis Costello’s My Aim is True album. After Clover, Shine was asked to join the Tommy Tutone band where he continued to build an impressive repertoire of work, including recording another album. In 1980 Tutone performed for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers “Damn the Torpedoes” tour. Remaining open to all interesting situations, Shine also performed Broadway shows including, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Hair, You're a Good Man, Charley Brown, Anything Goes, The Music Man. Shine also appeared with the City Symphony Orchestra of New York.

Since 1994, Shine has called The Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, home. Originally drawn there by his involvement with Habitat for Humanity, Shine stayed on after his initial involvement with the Jimmy Carter Work Project to seek another direction for his creativity. In that time, he has built his own home (he is also an accomplished carpenter), and created over 450 original works of art and mmusic since then. One of those works has been developed by Shine into a community art/mural project called “MMusic – MMedicine For Healing”. To date there have been three installations, one on the Cheyenne River Reservation, one at an elementary School in Michigan and one at an art festival in Roseburg, Oregon.

As part of his ongoing efforts to bring the understanding of mmusic to wider audiences through art, Shine has completed a 17’ frieze - in book form titled, “Listen Too This Book”.
In January 2000, Shine was the subject of 2 consecutive segments for the PBS radio program "Arts Advocate", which featured an interview about his musical life and original musical art.
In January 2001 the PBS TV program “Dakota Life” featured a look at his art and life on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation.
