    Summary

    An experienced school administrator, Michael Kohlhagen ensures student success while improving processes within school systems. During his nearly three-year tenure as Superintendent of Wethersfield Public Schools in Connecticut, Michael Kohlhagen led district students to score improvements on the Connecticut Mastery Test, the Connecticut Academic Performance Test, and the Scholastic Aptitude Test. He also increased instructional services, adding Advanced Placement classes for high school students and introducing an additional prekindergarten class to support the district's youngest students. In addition, Michael Kohlhagen set up a new special education database and secured grant funding for after-hours student support, ensuring a safety net for academically at-risk students. Furthermore, during his time as Superintendent at Wethersfield, Michael Kohlhagen presented the town with its lowest school budget in 10 years, meeting operating goals while retaining all staff. He instituted a number of technology improvements, as well, including an updated website for the district, a new e-mail system for correspondence between staff and students, and an improved process for school-home communications. Michael Kohlhagen is now working on his doctoral thesis at Columbia University, anticipating receipt of his degree in Education Administration. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the College of New Rochelle, where he additionally completed coursework in the Graduate School of Education. Also the recipient of a Master's in Social Work, he entered education as a social worker in the New York City public schools. He quickly displayed a talent for school leadership and rose through positions of increasing responsibility. Since that time, Michael Kohlhagen has worked as an Assistant Superintendent in Hartford, Connecticut, and as Assistant Superintendent for Instruction in Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District, in New York. He holds a number of educational certifications, including a Connecticut certificate as Superintendent of Schools.
