    An accomplished orthopaedic surgeon, Michael Clarke of Syracuse, New York, balances professional practice with lecturing and research contributions to his field. He focuses his research on the development of surface materials to improve the life of joint replacements. Based out of his home laboratory in Syracuse, Michael Clarke has facilitated 15 grant-funded clinical trials and several Food and Drug Administration Investigative Device Exemption (FDA/IDE) studies on joint replacement surgeries. Also the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, Dr. Clarke has successfully submitted work to such publications as the Journal of Orthopaedic Research and the Journal of Arthroplasty. He has presented before numerous learned societies and professional conferences, including the Hip Resurfacing Master's Course and the Orthopaedic Research Society, and his chapter “Metals and Metallic Alloys” appears in the in-press text Essentials of Orthopedic Surgery: Oncology and Basic Science. An associate fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the Orthopaedic Research Society, Dr. Clarke practices as an adult reconstruction surgeon at Syracuse Orthopaedic Specialists.
