About Margarette Shim:
Throughout her career, Margarette Shim has gained comprehensive expertise in legal, regulatory, and compliance issues, pertaining to the investment management industry. Margarette Shim possesses several years of experience working as an attorney at a major international law firm, as regulatory and compliance in-house counsel for large public and private corporations, as well as small and large hedge funds in New York and Connecticut.
During her legal career, Margarette Shim has focused primarily on legal, regulatory and compliance issues relating to the management of assets for both the mutual fund and hedge fund industries. During the span of her legal career, Margarette Shim has been employed at Dechert, L.P., a major international law firm, in its investment management group, both in its New York and Washington, D.C. offices. She has also worked as in-house legal counsel in both New York and Connecticut at J.& W. Seligman & Co., GE Asset Management, Basso Capital Management, L.P. and D. E. Shaw & Co.,L.P.
While employed by GE Asset Management, Inc. Margarette Shim received her certification as a Six Sigma, passing the Green Belt Examination for Quality. Margarette Shim received her Juris Doctorate from the Washington College of Law at American University in Washington, D.C. where she was a member of The ABA Administrative Law Review.
Margarette Shim graduated from Duke University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Margarette Shim studied in Europe and Asia during her academic career. She was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, a national Pan-Hellenic sorority with involvement in the academic and philanthropy committees. Margarette Shim was a reporter for The Chronicle, the Duke University student newspaper. She was also committee chairperson for Art Events Committee for the Duke University Student Union, which oversaw gallery exhibitions and artistic and cultural events brought to Duke University.
