In his more than three decades in investment banking and advisory, John Studzinski has led many mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, fixed-income and equity financing, and other transactions on an international scale. Based in London and New York, John Studzinski is a Senior Managing Director of The Blackstone Group, the Global Head of Blackstone Advisory Partners, and a member of the firm's Executive Committee. He currently serves as an advisor to more than 50 CEOs and heads of government around the world.
John Studzinski has provided guidance to the boards of several multinational corporations on some of the most complex, high-profile transactions of the past decade. His work as the sole advisor to AIG during its 2008 global restructuring is described in the award-winning book Too Big to Fail, by journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin. John Studzinski has also advised the government of Singapore on investing in Citibank and managing the risk associated with the deal, and he helped facilitate the merger of Reuters and the Thomson Corporation in 2008. His other major engagements include assessing options for the sale of the British bank Northern Rock in 2012; advising Suez S.A. during its merger with GDF and subsequent purchase of International Power; and consulting with Pershing Square Capital Management, Xerox Corporation, Anglo Irish Bank, and the New York Stock Exchange.
Starting his career in New York in investment banking, Mr. Studzinski held increasingly responsible positions at Morgan Stanley for 23 years. He spent the majority of that time in London, where he became Deputy Chairman of Morgan Stanley International and Head of European Investment Banking. Prior to accepting his current positions at Blackstone, John Studzinski served as co-Head of Investment Banking at HSBC Group, where he also participated on the Group Management Board during his three-year tenure.
John Studzinski serves as Chairman of CREATE and the Benjamin Franklin House museum, as well as Vice Chairman of Human Rights Watch. Additionally, he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Peter G. Peterson Institute for International Economics, and the Board of Directors of the Atlantic Counsel. He is also Governor of the Royal College of Arts. In addition, he provides board service to numerous other groups, including Chairman of the American Friends of the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. He is also a member of the boards of The Passage Day Centre, Free Appropriate Public Education, and the Board of International Youth Foundations. Additionally, Mr. Studzinski shares his expertise at LeadersIn online, which presents inspirational talks by global leaders in their fields. His awards include two papal honors, the Prince of Wales Ambassador Award, and the Beacon Award. Additionally, Queen Elizabeth named him a Commander of the British Empire.
Mr. Studzinski received a B.A. from Bowdoin College and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
