Frances Sweitzer is an artist and art enthusiast with a particular expertise in painting. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of North Florida in 1993. During that same year, Frances Sweitzer participated in a number of different art shows in which she won awards. At the St. Augustine College Show, she earned Best of Show. And at the Oil, Acrylic, and Collage Show of the Suwannee Valley Regional in 1993, she received the Equal Award. During that time she was also a member of the St. Augustine Art Association.
As a painter, Frances Sweitzer focuses on the color and tone complexity that is found in human and animal subjects. For Ms. Sweitzer, color is quite powerful in the human visual experience and that it leaves the most vivid impression. In fact, her choice of colors in her own painting depends mostly on the thoughts and emotions that she experiences at that time. As an artist, Frances Sweitzer prefers to work quickly in order to produce a spontaneous and chiseled feel in her work.
Along with refining her own artwork, Frances Sweitzer also studies other artists’ work. In her travels, she has visited a number of different art museums. In the Netherlands, she has visited the Rembrandt Museum, Rijks Museum, Frans Hals Museum, and Van Gogh Museum. She has also spent a good deal of time at the Louvre Museum in France. Back in the United States, she has visited the Museum of Modern Art and the Matisse Retrospective Exhibit in New York City. When she is not painting or studying art in museums, she is reading art history.
Aside from her work as an artist, Frances Sweitzer has also worked in the cosmetics industry. From 1994 until 2007, she worked for a number of different cosmetic companies, including Estee Lauder, Saks Fifth Avenue, and L’Oreal.
