About him

An animal rights activist and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Linda Gottwald, DNP, has spent close to two decades working to provide adequate health care and placement for homeless animals. Involved for many years as head of an animal shelter and clinic in Florida, Gottwald continues her work with animals as Executive Director of the nonprofit Pine Cone Farm shelter in Michigan.

Linda Gottwald has earned recognition for her dedicated efforts to improve the plight of abused and neglected animals. While attending Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago, where she earned the advanced degree of Doctor of Nursing Practice, she received a community service award for her volunteer efforts with The Anti-Cruelty Society. Additionally, Gottwald was awarded an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship working with the Health & Medicine Policy Research Group during her time at Rush University.

A freelance writer with a Master of Journalism from the University of California, Berkeley, Linda Gottwald served as a staff writer for the Oakland Tribune, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and the Associated Press. Her work has also appeared in USA Today and the San Francisco Chronicle. She also composes pet profiles for various publications to help find homes for unwanted animals. Gottwald has maintained longstanding membership with organizations devoted to saving animals, including The Humane Society of the United States and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Linda Gottwald’s varied and successful career has taken her to Traverse City, Michigan, where she currently teaches as part of the adjunct faculty at Northwestern Michigan College. She also holds a nursing position with Munson Medical Center. Prior to moving from Florida, she worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner from 2002 to 2010 at a Florida Keys care center. In this role, Gottwald provided inpatient care at a clinic for patients seeking treatment for mental health and addictive disorders.
