Over the course of 35 years, podiatrist Dr. Andrew Carver has focused on utilizing innovative methods and the most advanced technology available. He has gone so far as to invent his own equipment when he finds existing products insufficient. While Dr. Andrew Carver, DPM, has spent the majority of his career practicing in San Francisco, he currently resides in Washington, D.C., where he operates the Washington, DC Shock Wave Center & Washington, DC Laser Nail Center.
In 1982, Andrew Carver, DPM, was one of the first physicians to apply the Xanar CO2 surgical laser to podiatric medicine. Twenty years later, the foot doctor became fascinated by Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT), then began implementing it in his surgical procedures. Now he is one of the premier doctors to use the Electro Medical Systems S.A. (EMS) Swiss DolorClast shock wave machine, which is the most up-to-date treatment for planter fasciitis (heel pain), Achilles tendonitis, and a number of other debilitating foot conditions. A trailblazer in the treatment of nail fungus, Dr. Carver is one of the first physicians ever to use the Nomir Medical Technologies’ cold laser outside of his office.
One of Dr. Andrew Carver’s most important contributions to his field was the invention of the Weil-Carver Hammertoe Implant. Prior to its development, long wires that ran through the toe and stuck out of the tip by about a half inch were the only treatment for hammertoes. As the wires would have to remain in place for six weeks following surgery, they added complications to patients’ lives. Dr. Carver’s Weil-Carver Hammertoe Implant is contained entirely under the surface of the skin and dissolves into sugar and water over the course of 6 to 12 weeks.
With a passion for helping athletes to overcome potentially career-damaging foot and ankle conditions, Dr. Andrew Carver has acted as Team Podiatrist for the NBA team the Golden State Warriors and the United States Football League. In addition, Dr. Carver lists Joe Montana, Andre Agassi, Jerry Rice, and Chris Mullin as among the high-profile athletes with whom he has worked.
