Doctor Roberta Kalafut graduated from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. From YSU, Doctor Roberta Kalafut moved onto Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio, where she studied the musculoskeletal system and diseases affecting the body. After graduating from American Osteopathic Association-accredited OU-COM, Doctor Roberta Kalafut, a Doctor of Osteopathy, entered the Interinstitutional Residency Program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, a combined effort between Sinai and Johns Hopkins Hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland. Doctor Roberta Kalafut thrived in the program, and was eventually promoted by administration to Chief Resident. Working within the Interinstitutional Residency Program, Doctor Roberta Kalafut organized educational courses for residents of the inter-hospital project and managed issues related to their well-being. Doctor Roberta Kalafut conducted all outpatient rehabilitation services as Medical Director of the HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to her position with the Center, Doctor Roberta Kalafut was the President-Elect for the physical medicine and rehabilitation medicine section of the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty of Maryland. From 1992 to 1996, Doctor Roberta Kalafut oversaw rehabilitation nurse curriculum development as Medical Director of the Hendrick Center for Rehabilitation in Abilene, Texas. Operating within the Hendrick Health System, Doctor Roberta Kalafut worked closely with the Center’s nursing staff, assisting 13 nurses in becoming Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurses. As Medical Director, Doctor Roberta Kalafut aided her staff members in providing acute rehabilitation and occupational health services, as well as inpatient and sports rehab. In 1997, Doctor Roberta Kalafut took the helm as Vice Chief of Staff at the Abilene Regional Medical Center. In her position at the 231-bed hospital, Doctor Roberta Kalafut helped oversee a staff of more than 200 physicians and 750 employees. Throughout her prestigious career, Doctor Roberta Kalafut has recognized the importance of directing change within the medical industry. With that ambition, Doctor Roberta Kalafut has sat on and is a member of a number of boards and committees. Doctor Roberta Kalafut is Chairman of the Taylor-Jones-Haskell County Medical Society’s Physicians Health and Rehabilitation Committee, where she is responsible for overseeing the rehabilitation of impaired physicians. Doctor Roberta Kalafut is also a Committee Member with the Texas Medical Association, and a member of the state’s District Review Committee, which reviews alleged physician infringements of the Medical Practice Act and advises appropriate disciplinary actions. In addition, Doctor Roberta Kalafut has held positions on the Federation of State Medical Boards, the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and the Texas Medical Board.
