David Zarett has spent nearly twenty years transforming turn-of-the-century industrial buildings in downtown Seattle into high-end retail and creative spaces. In 1997, David Zarett and his development firm, Zarett Properties, purchased the Cobalt Building in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood. Three years and $10 million dollars later, it became Starbucks Coffee Company’s northwest headquarters. Other successes for Zarett Properties include the conversion of the former Diamond Ice and Storage Company plant, a 100-year-old warehouse. Represented in the Association of Washington Business, Zarett Properties was formed in 1992, after David Zarett moved to Seattle from Los Angeles, where he learned the business working as a commercial real-estate broker. After an accomplished career in real estate development, David Zarett has shifted his focus to sustainable design and building a strong foundation in philanthropy and volunteerism. Zarett commits a great deal of time to charities like the Red Cross and the Boys and Girls Club, as well as directly volunteers with at-risk youth and the homeless. In his free time, David Zarett enjoys literature, citing British authors George Orwell and Aldous Huxley among his favorites. David Zarett received his education at Southern Oregon State University, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.
