Covey Cowan builds homes with detailed architectural features and sophisticated design. In his current position as project manager and supervisor at Van Acker Construction Associates in Mill Valley, California, Covey Cowan collaborates with professionals in architecture, interior design, and engineering. Prior to his service with Van Acker, Cowan founded Seneca Builders, a firm in San Carlos, California, that handled high-end residential construction. Covey Cowan placed great value on sustainability, based on the idea that the building process should demonstrate respect for the Earth with environmentally safe practices and materials. The American Institute of Architects gave his firm an award for sustainability for its Hidden Villa youth hostel project, which he built on a cost-only basis, forgoing a profit. Before running Seneca, Cowan operated a self-named company that contracted with owners to build high-end homes and remodels. His experience in construction began with a decade and a half of work as a carpenter. Cowan has also donated time and energy to the Center for Attitudinal Healing as a group facilitator. In addition, he raised funds for a school library in a Mexican village of Huichol Indians.
