More about myself

New YorkUnited States

Hi My Name is Charles,

I am a recent graduate from Suffolk University but I am both an american and french citizen.

I am very keen to become an active player in improving the world’s efficient use of energy through the use of different technologies, and it is for this reason that I decided to add an Environmental Engineering degree to my course of studies. Initially, I started out declaring my major in mathematics. I became interested in its meaning in today’s world, which in parallel with my interest in banking, seemed like a logical choice. In the summer of my freshman year I interned for an investment management company. The following summer during which I spent my summer working at Goldman Sachs was very different; the firm’s size was much larger, the pace was faster, the challenge was greater, which heightened the excitement and put an emphasis on efficiency and speed. However, by the time I had completed my second experience in the field of finance, I realized that I wanted to use mathematics in other ways than to develop financial models, and I reached the conclusion that I would like to be much more active and involved in building things, and in acting on my altruistic desire to be useful in the world.

At the end of my second internship, I returned to Suffolk and declared a second major in Environmental Engineering as a way to put mathematics to more practical uses. It was a difficult decision to reach since I was already in my third year of college and an additional major in Environmental Engineering meant that I had to be in school an extra year and attend both summer to complete both course loads. I am very happy with my decision, though, because I have learned an enormous amount, and have enjoyed learning it despite the challenges of juggling this heavy academic schedule and losing an opportunity to gain internship experience in the field. Nevertheless, I have tried to complement my academic training with research and practical experience with my professors, which gave me an even greater appetite for working in the field of engineering. Being taught the engineering material in parallel with my math background enhanced my understanding of using mathematical properties in the physical world. There are limitless amounts of properties, which could help our understanding of weather patterns, chemical behaviors and many more that need to be discovered.

I have worked with many different softwares such as:
Wolfram Mathematica 8.0, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), GIS, AutoCAD, Java (Standard knowledge), C++ (Standard knowledge), Objective C (Introductory knowledge)
