Dr. Carole Hankin presently serves as Superintendent of Schools for the Syosset Central School District in New York, a position she has held since 1990. In this capacity, Dr. Hankin has responsibility for 10 schools, 1,500 employees, and 6,600 students. She also manages a $188-million budget in support of daily activities throughout the district. In recognition of Dr. Hankin’s financially sound decisions, the school district received a Aa1 rating from Moody’s Investors Service, Inc., and all secondary schools in the district have been recognized as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Carole Hankin initiated a number of programs and partnerships with highly regarded institutions, such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the American Museum of Natural History.
With innovative foresight, Dr. Carole Hankin implemented a curriculum designed upon scientific studies about early brain development. Additionally, the students in the Syosset Central School District learn a variety of languages throughout their elementary school days, including Russian, Chinese, Spanish, French, Italian, and Latin. Dr. Hankin also introduced an elementary enrichment program and a peer leadership program for which the district receives grants, instilling her students with further skills. In order to gather student input, Dr. Carole Hankin established the Superintendent’s Student Cabinet, a semi-annual discussion between her and student representatives from all 10 district schools.
Dr. Carole Hankin also offers a solid television, radio, and print publication presence. She has appeared multiple times on Fox News Live, discussing a number of issues such as bullying, school suspensions, zero tolerance, and school vouchers. Dr. Hankin has been interviewed on The Joan Hamburg Show, as well, and she has been featured on CNN Radio and WCBS-FM radio’s Weekend Roundup. As a writer, she touches upon subjects like cultural partnerships in curriculum and teaching world languages, and her articles appear regularly in Education Update. In addition, Dr. Carole Hankin belongs to professional organizations like the National Society of Newspaper Columnists and the American Association of School Administrators, and she serves on the Board of Trustees for The Museum of Mathematics, opening in 2012 in New York City, the only museum of its kind in the country.
Dr. Carole Hankin brings an impressive amount of education to her position. She earned a BA from Sarah Lawrence College, and she has two Master’s degrees and a Doctorate from Columbia University. Dr. Carole Hankin also received additional education from respected institutions like Cornell University, Harvard University, and Yale University.
