Fluent in English, Greek, Spanish, and French, Ph.D. candidate Argiris Malapanis expects to complete his doctorate in Nanoscale Science/Engineering in 2012 at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany, State University of New York. He earned an M.S. in Physics at the University of Minnesota and a B.S. in Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece. Argiris (Argyrios) Malapanis has authored and contributed to a number of articles published in professional journals, including “Measuring Carbon Nanotube Band Gaps through Leakage Current and Excitonic Transitions of Nanotube Diodes” in Nano Letters. The researcher and engineer also has delivered a number of presentations for the American Physical Society, the Physical Electronics Conference, and other groups and events.
As a Research Assistant at the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering, Argiris Malapanis gained expertise in fabricating carbon nanotube diodes and other novel electronic devices. He also analyzed CMOS structures, including through electrical measurements such as C-V and I-V curves. Experienced in imaging-tool use, including SEM and TEM, he has mastered device growth through Chemical Vapor Deposition and has used related techniques such as Reactive Ion Etch and oxygen plasma. In other employment, Argyrios Malapanis served as a math teacher at Community Impact, a Columbia University program. In this role, he instructed high school students and adults pursuing a general education development (GED) diploma. In addition, for seven years, he tutored high school and college students in math and physics.
A member of the American Physical Society and the American Chemical Society, Argyrios Malapanis possesses software skills in image processing, schematics, data analysis, and device simulation. The extensive experience of Argiris Malapanis also includes working in a Class 10 clean-room environment and semiconductor processing. Outside of his professional and educational duties, Argyrios Malapanis enjoys gardening, cooking, and taking photographs. He also plays soccer.
