Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ambassador to the United States of America, endeavors to strengthen and grow more than just the economic and security ties between the two nations. While fulfilling his professional duties, he has also contributed greatly to an understanding between the two cultures. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba accomplished this by raising substantial funds for the Childrens National Medical Center and by serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the EastWest Institute. Ranked as one of the best pediatric hospitals in the U. S. by The Leapfrog Group and by U.S. News & World Report, Childrens National Medical Center annually treats over 360,000 patients from all over the world. In support of the hospitals Be Brave and Shave effort to generate funds for cancer programs, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba shaved his head. Raising $264,000 for the cause, he also generously matched the donations. As such, the efforts of Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba contributed about $528,000 to the Childrens National Medical Center. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba also serves as a board member of the EastWest Institute, which operates offices in New York, Brussels, and Moscow. A nonprofit think-and-do tank, the institute confronts issues endangering peace.
