After he sold Rockamerica to RED (retail entertainment design), Ed Steinberg was brought on as the VP of Licensing & Label Relations. He has developed programs in France, Japan and in the USA.

In 1979, Steinberg created the first out of home video network, the Rockamerica Video Pool. Within 2 years there were over 850 clubs and within 5 years there were 1.200 clubs and 4,000 retail stores using Rockamerica’s services. In the mid 80’s they pioneered the first ‘remix’ videos.
Steinberg produces and directed long-form TV programs including music specials for MTV, three specials for “Alive From Off Center” shown on PBS and “The Palladium, When Mambo Was King” for Bravo Network. He has directed ‘rockumentaries’ for MTV, EMI and PolyGram Records. Steinberg has directed over 70 music videos for artists such as Madonna, Gipsy Kings, U2, and Yello. He is produced a DVD/HD (High Definition) project “Cheap Trick in Japan”- a live concert with Steinberg directing a documentary to accompany the concert – shot around Japan as well as a ‘rockumentary’ on one of Cuba’s leading new musicians, X-Alfonso. Steinberg has produced theme music for the PBS series, Cooking with Daisy.
Prior to forming Rockamerica, Steinberg was the Producer for Billboard Publication’s music video program, Starstream and Director of TeleFrance USA. The first nationally syndicated cable TV program for French culture and was supervising editor for Television New Research in NYC.
He has managed artists including Yello (Universal) and Belouis Some (EMI). Both artists’ music is featured in many feature films. He is quoted in The New York Times, Playboy, Billboard, Time, The Wall Street Journal and many music industry publications.
His videos are in the collections of the Whitney Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, The Guggenheim Museum and in collections in 15 other countries. He has curated shows at the Wood Gallery in Pittsburg as well as the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Ed Steinberg has been on the music advisory board for the American Film Institute, MTV-Alternative Music and Latin Music Committees, The Billboard Music Conference The New Music Seminar, South By Southwest, and New York University.
He has published “The Guide to Music Video” from 1983 –1985 as well as the leading magazine for video music, Videofile Magazine 1981-1992. In 1983-1885, Steinberg produced the premier music video conference in the business, The Rockamerica Music Video Conference. He has been the musical director for the Havana Film Festival (2001-2007) as well as the Latin American Cinema Festival (2002). He produced popular Cuban music CDs for the Havana Film Festival in 2001 & 2004.
